The school started its activities as a Young Warrior club in 1994. The Young Warrior school “Lūšiukai” was established in 2005. September 1, 2012 the school was reformed from a non-formal education institution into the general education school, which carries out basic, secondary and non-formal education together with the Law and Military Fundamental training program and its work is based on Land Cadet education system. In 2013 the school was named General Povilas Plechavičius Cadet School and in 2015 it was named General Povilas Plechavičius Cadet Lyceum. This is the only Lyceum in Lithuania based on activities of land cadet education conception confirmed the Minister of Education of the Republic of Lithuania in 16 November by Order No V-1586. In the conception of Part III point 6 states that Cadet of Land school students study not only under general secondary education programs ( grades 5-12 ), but also Law and Military programs and acquire the foundations in law and military.
The founders of General Povilas Plechavičius Cadet Lyceum are the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and Kaunas City Municipality.
Students not only from Kaunas, but also from other cities and districts of Lithuania study at General Povilas Plechavičius Lyceum.
Educational activities at Cadet Lyceum are held from 8.00 am until 7:00 pm.
The Cadet Lyceum works five days a week. In accordance with the Land Cadets conceptin military hikes are organized on Saturdays and agenda is agreed by the Council of Lyceum.
By implementing the Primary and Secondary Education Curriculum, the Lyceum creates conditions for pupils to learn, and to be respected psychologically-based, spiritually and physically healthy and safe environment of other school staff, ensuring an appropriate and timely response to bullying and violence.
Every pupil has the opportunity to have a physical training session every day for at least 1 hour in Lyceum spaces ( boxing, fitness, self-defense, mountaineering and sports halls). All pupils attend non-formal learning sessions.
In order to develop pupils’ competencies in a consistent manner, Lychees links the formal curriculum with non-formal practical activities to deepen student achievement, uses active teaching / learning methods and integrates activities in the classroom.
The cognitive, cultural activities of the pupil is an integral part of the educational process. Activities are related not only to the aims of the Lyceum, but also to the learning needs of the pupils. This activity is organized not only in the Lyceum, but also in other environments ( museums, open access centers, educational partners of institutions, virtual learning environments ).
Developing social experience in Cadet’s Lyceum is based on the concept of cadet education as a practical implementation of the slogan “For the Benefit of the Homeland!”
Cadets have their own symbolism – flag, oath, code of honor, uniform.
Pupils studying in Cadet Lyceum, purposefully choose further studies: General Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy, Mykolas Riomeris University, professional military service, other higher schools, colleges.
